The Tennessee Titans have reportedly added to their wide receivers room ahead of the 2022 campaign by signing wide receiver Josh Gordon to the practice squad after the two sides met on Wednesday.
The news comes from Gordon’s agent, via NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. It isn’t clear whose spot on the practice squad he’ll be taking, though.
After finalizing their 53-man roster, the Titans, who were already thin at wide receiver after keeping just five, were forced to place wideout Racey McMath on injured reserve, further thinning out the group.
Now they’ll take a closer look at Gordon, who was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs in what was the latest setback in what has been a troubled career.
Gordon exploded onto the scene in 2013, when he led the NFL in receiving yards and looked poised to become an elite player at his position for years to come.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t in the cards, as Gordon ran into several off-the-field issues that netted him six suspensions from the league, five of which were related to substance abuse issues, per ESPN.
Gordon isn’t the reliable option Tennessee needs, but there’s no doubt the upside he brings and it makes all the sense in the world to add him to the practice squad to at least give him a look.
