Titans’ Ryan Tannehill has among highest QB ratings when under pressure

It’s been no secret that Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been under constant pressure throughout the 2022 season.

The Titans’ offensive line has struggled from a consistency standpoint, largely due to a combination of poor depth and unfortunate injuries.

Most notably, the biggest area of concern for the Texas native is the fact that he’s had a human turnstile playing left tackle for the majority of the season.

It should go without saying that having your quarterback’s blindside as the team’s obvious weak spot along the offensive line is less than ideal.

Despite all this, Tannehill has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league this year whenever he’s under pressure.

According to Next Gen Stats, the Titans quarterback owns the second-highest passer rating in the league when he’s under pressure. Tannehill’s rating comes in at 95.4 after completing 50-of-94 passes for 706 yards, five touchdowns, and zero interceptions when under duress.

Even more impressive is the fact that he’s the only signal-caller among the top seven to attempt at least 90 passes under pressure.

In fact, San Francico 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is the only  signal-caller who owns a higher passer rating than Tannehill (125.2). However, he’s also attempted 42 fewer passes under pressure than the Titans quarterback has this season.

As impressive as this feat is, everyone would much rather see No .17 operating from a clean pocket on a more consistent basis.

Unfortunately, at this point in the season, that seems more like a pipe dream than a realistic scenario for this particular offense.
