Tennessee Titans quarterback Malik Willis has shown signs of progress so far this offseason, and he remains in the lead for the team’s backup job behind Ryan Tannehill after outplaying rookie Will Levis during the offseason program.
Willis recently spoke about the narrative surrounding him after a lackluster first season, and how things have been going so far this offseason, which you can check out here.
The Liberty product’s progress, which includes a better handle of the offense and being more decisive, hasn’t been lost on his coaches and teammates, with Tannehill noting that Willis has “grown a lot.”
“Malik has grown a lot,” Tannehill said, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “He put a lot of work throughout the offseason. I was able to throw with him a few times during the offseason before we started here and saw his growth, saw him pushing himself.
“He has only continued that as we’ve gotten out here,” he added. “I’m proud of him and the work he’s put in, and it’s fun to see a guy grow, and see his hard work pay off.”
Head coach Mike Vrabel also chimed in, saying Willis has “continued to get better” and is taking what he’s learning from coaches and bringing it to the practice field.
“I thought he continued to get better,” Vrabel said. “His attitude, his demeanor, making little coaching points with him and seeing that immediately translate… He is very receptive (to coaching).”
The Titans’ selection of Levis indicates the team doesn’t think too highly of Willis’ future, but the 24-year-old can change that if he continues to show improvement the rest of the offseason.
