Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk hasn’t been a fan of using Houston Oilers throwbacks in years past because of the league’s helmet policy that would force the team to wear its current helmet with the throwback jersey.
However, after the league eased restrictions on what helmets teams can use, the door was opened for Tennessee to wear the Oilers throwbacks. And, according to Jim Wyatt of Titans Online, that’s the plan in 2023.
In a recent mailbag article, Wyatt said the Titans plan to wear their Oilers throwbacks for a home game this coming season, and he suspects it’ll come against the Houston Texans, although that hasn’t been confirmed.
As for the Oilers throwbacks, nothing has changed from what I’ve said previously. The plan is to wear them for a home game in 2023. The exact game is still TBD, but I’ve already said I suspect it will be for the game vs the Texans. Wouldn’t that make the most sense?
The Titans will have their usual two contests against Houston in 2023, but we won’t know the exact date of their home game against the Texans until the full schedule is released sometime in May.
Texans fans maintain that the team should have ownership of Oilers history, but even multiple Oilers greats don’t think that should be the case.
