Tennessee Titans rookie guard Peter Skoronski received a ton of hype in the pre-draft process, and for good reason: He was one of the most pro-ready players coming into the draft thanks to his being fundamentally sound, strong, and athletic.
He immediately hit the ground running in Week 1, looking like the dominant blocker many of us expected, and he was amongst the highest-graded guards in the league after the season opener.
Unfortunately, he needed an emergency appendectomy shortly thereafter, which not only caused him to miss a few games but also depleted him of some of his size and strength that made him a force to be reckoned with.
It’s taken a couple of weeks, but it seems like Skoronski is finally starting to get back on track and the flashes he’s had have been very impressive — and so much so that he was recently named to ESPN’s “All-Youngster Team”.
Here is what ESPN’s Matt Miller and Matt Bowen had to say about selecting Skoronski to the team that consists of players under 24 years old:
The No. 11 overall pick in the 2023 draft, Skoronski has made the transition from college left tackle to NFL left guard over eight starts this season, securing a pass block win rate of 87.1%. He is no doubt still acclimating to the new position on an offense that has been under duress this season, but the potential is through the roof with his play power, patience, and dominant run-blocking traits.
Adding to their statement, over the last two weeks, Skoronski has the second-highest pass-blocking grade (89.2) out of all guards in the NFL, not allowing a single sack or pressure over his last 51 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus.
The Northwestern product still has some things to clean up in his overall game, but there’s no denying that his long-term potential could result in a perennial All-Pro player down the line.
