The Tennessee Titans introduced their new general manager Mike Borgonzi this week and answered some questions about the future direction of the franchise.
One of the big takeaways from both Borgonzi and president of football operations Chad Brinker was that the Titans were going to be more prudent with their free agent spending.
Lauded last offseason for their incredible $228 million spending spree, Brinker admitted that the results didn’t live up to the hype and that they were going to take a different approach this year.
Those statements don’t stop outside outlets from presenting their thoughts on the direction of the franchise or preclude them from making free agent predictions.
That includes Pro Football Focus (PFF), who believe the Titans are a perfect fit for one of the top free agents soon to be on the market: Edge rusher Josh Sweat.
Sweat’s consistent production as part of Philadelphia’s elite pass-rush unit makes him one of the most attractive options on the free-agent market. Entering his age-28 season, he brings a stellar track record, ranking 15th among edge defenders in pressures (178) over the past three seasons.
A natural landing spot could be Tennessee, where he’d join his younger brother, T’Vondre Sweat, who just put up a 76.2 overall grade in an impressive rookie year.
This would make for an interesting family reunion and it is fairly easy to connect some dots with this one. There is no doubt that the Titans need to upgrade on the edge and improve their pass rush. Sweat would do that and more, along with the possibility of giving the team some flexibility in the upcoming NFL draft.
The biggest question mark on this would be what direction the front office decides to take in free agency. After having such lackluster results in 2024, will they be more conservative this year? Even if that is their plan, landing a player like Sweat would make some financial sense, as long as it doesn’t stop them from finding a solid offensive tackle option.
With roughly seven weeks until free agency begins on March 12, there will be a lot of talk and speculation ahead.
