One of the biggest question marks of the Tennessee Titans’ 2023 offseason can finally be put to rest, as the team and defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons have agreed to a contract extension.
According to ESPN’s Turron Davenport, it’s a four-year pact for $94 million, with $66 million guaranteed. The $23.5 million annually makes Simmons the second-highest paid interior defensive lineman in the NFL behind the Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald.
The road to this point wasn’t exactly smooth, as Simmons worried fans when he removed all mention of the Titans from his Instagram. However, that appeared to be a bump in the road at best.
As far as this upcoming season is concerned, Simmons will still play on the $10.75 million the fifth-year option pays him, so his new deal will not kick in until 2024.
Since being drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft, Simmons has become the heart and soul of Tennessee’s defense and one of the very best at his position in the NFL. At 26, extending him was always a no-brainer.
