The Tennessee Titans are on their bye week and are taking the extra time this week to get a look at some players, according to the league’s transactions wire.
Among the players to try out for the Titans on Thursday were three familiar faces in running back Jonathan Ward, linebacker Joseph Jones and defensive back Josh Thompson.
Ward and Thompson were both with the Titans during the offseason, also, but suffered injuries that thwarted their bids at the team’s initial 53-man roster.
This is Ward’s second meeting with the Titans this month. Tennessee only has two running backs on the active roster, so there’s a need for depth there. Thompson and Ward can offer help on special teams, also.
Jones appeared in 24 games with the Titans from 2021 through 2022, playing mostly on special teams. He saw just 64 snaps on defense in that span.
Now, a look at the rest of the players the Titans worked out, along with some information for each.
DB Kris Boyd
Boyd has the Monti Ossenfort connection from his 2023 stay in Arizona with the Cardinals.
A former seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, he’s played in 62 games (six starts) over four seasons with them and four games with Arizona. Boyd played a career-high 343 defensive snaps in 2020 but has spent most of his playing time on special teams.
DT Marlon Davidson
A former second-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, Davidson was a popular prospect among Titans fans that year.
He spent two seasons with the Falcons from 2020 through 2021, appearing in 19 games (one start). He hasn’t played a snap in the NFL since the latter campaign.
Davidson was last on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad this year but was released earlier this month.
LB JoJo Domann
The undrafted free-agent linebacker played in 16 games with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022, but did not play a single snap on defense (264 on special teams).
G Lachavious Simmons
A 2020 seventh-round pick of the Chicago Bears, Simmons has played in just two games (one start) during his career, with both coming in 2021. He posted Pro Football Focus grades of 30.6 overall, 64.1 in run-blocking and 0.0 in pass-blocking in 28 offensive snaps.
