We’ve seen plenty of mocks with the Tennessee Titans taking a left tackle and wide receiver in the first two rounds of the 2024 NFL draft, but what if the Titans went cornerback in Round 2 instead?
That’s exactly the scenario in the latest mock draft from The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, who has the Titans grabbing Notre Dame left tackle Joe Alt and Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter with their first two picks.
Here’s what Brugler wrote on the selection of Alt:
Alt and Peter Skoronski kicking butt on the left side of the Titans’ offensive line for the next decade is an easy pitch to make. I have nothing else to add.
And what Brugler said about Lassiter:
The Titans’ defense ranked 30th in the percentage of targets that resulted in a reception (71.0). Lassiter is smart, smooth and very competitive – only 38.5 percent of his targets this season resulted in a catch.
We already know Alt is a home run pick at No. 7 overall, but taking a cornerback over a wide receiver would be a mistake.
The Titans do need a No.1 cornerback — and quite possibly a No. 2 if Sean Murphy-Bunting isn’t re-signed — but the biggest priority this offseason is surrounding quarterback Will Levis with as much help as possible.
DeAndre Hopkins is the only wide receiver currently on the roster who can be trusted but there’s no guarantee he won’t ask to be moved.
Tennessee can address the need in free agency, but more help will be needed, even if Hopkins, who only has one more year left on his deal, returns.
The Titans also don’t sport a third-round pick, thus bypassing a wideout with their first two selections means they won’t get another crack at taking one until Round 4, assuming they don’t add anymore picks.
That is an approach general manager Ran Carthon simply cannot take, especially after trolling us during last year’s draft as he neglected the position, a decision that ultimately proved costly.
