Titans GM denies shopping Derrick Henry for trade during NFL Combine

After the NFL Combine, a report surfaced that the Tennessee Titans were shopping running back Derrick Henry for a trade during the event, but general manager Ran Carthon called that report “erroneous.”

While down at the NFL owners meetings, Carthon also noted that Henry and the Titans are “in a good place,” according to ESPN’s Turron Davenport.

“There’s nothing new to report,” Carthon said. “There was an erroneous report that came out. I’ve spoken to Todd, Derrick’s representative, and we’re in a good place. So, there’s nothing new to report from there.

“I know Derrick trains like crazy in the location where he trains — I know the location, I don’t want to put it out there — but Derrick is going to be Derrick. He’s going to take his time away and do what he has to do to make sure that he’s ready to go. So, feel we’re in a good place.”

In the wake of the aforementioned report from Bally Sports’ Michael Silver, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reported that the Titans weren’t shopping Henry. MMQB’s Albert Breer also added that the Titans were listening to offers rather than actively shopping him.

Assuming the Titans aren’t blowing it up and are actually trying to retool in order to compete in 2023, trading their best player doesn’t make much sense, especially when you consider the current state of the passing game.

While Carthon would likely never admit shopping Henry even if he did, his comments should give fans a bit more confidence that The King will remain seated in his throne in Nashville in 2023.
