Titans’ Chance Campbell talks lost 2022 season, carving out a role in 2023

Linebacker Chance Campbell was the Tennessee Titans’ sixth-round pick of the 2022 NFL draft and he was expected to immediately compete for a role on special teams and as a backup in his first season.

Unfortunately, that was hardly the case for the rookie linebacker due to a knee injury that ended his first season before it even got started.

Campbell recently admitted to Titans’ beat writer Jim Wyatt that his time away from the football field was initially hard on him mentally, saying:

“You go through a period of being upset and frustrated with the world about, ‘Why me? or What if?,” Campbell said. “But you can’t really live in that world. I had to find that silver lining.”

With his knee injury now in the rearview mirror, the Ole Miss product is back on the football field and competing for a spot on the Titans’ roster.

While that type of uncertain future is undoubtedly stressful, Campbell is simply embracing the opportunity in front of him now that he’s healthy enough to practice with his teammates instead of rehabbing inside.

“It’s been a long time waiting,” he said. “So, I am just excited to be back out here with the guys.”

The second-year linebacker also added the following in regards to trying to make a name for himself inside of a linebackers room that realistically has at least one starting job up for grabs.

“What’s asked of us is to go and try and make a role and help the team any way we can, and that’s what I am going to try and do,” Campbell said. “They just ask us to play the best ball we can, and that is what I try to focus on, however I can do that, the best I can do that, that’s what I try and do.”

Only time will tell if Campbell ultimately makes the team and carves out a role for himself, but one thing is for certain: he’ll have every opportunity in the world to prove himself once training camp rolls around.
