Titans’ cap space after Nick Folk trade, 53-man roster cuts

The Tennessee Titans whittled their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday, but before that they also made a significant trade, acquiring kicker Nick Folk from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round pick.

Prior to the deal, the Titans were without a kicker after releasing Michael Badgley earlier in the week. Now they have Folk in the mix, giving them a much-needed reliable kicker, at least based on his past numbers.

As far as his contract is concerned, Folk has just one year left on his current deal and the Titans will be on the hook for $2.2 million of it, per Over the Cap.

To compare, former kicker Randy Bullock was set to make $2.7 million against the cap in 2023 before he was cut. So, Folk, who figures to be an upgrade, at least on paper, is actually cheaper.

That said, it cost all of us quite a bit more in panic and frustration to get to this point, and considering how cursed the Titans have been at kicker, it’s anything but a foregone conclusion this will work out.

When you include Folk’s deal and the rest of the Titans’ initial roster, the team is working with $12.1 million in cap space, also per Over the Cap. That’s the 20th-highest total in the NFL.
