After losing one of their Derrick Henry fill-ins from 2021, D’Onta Foreman, the Tennessee Titans are bringing back one of the others.
According to multiple reports, the Titans and running back Dontrell Hilliard have agreed to terms on a deal. The exact details haven’t been revealed yet.
Hilliard was one of three running backs the Titans originally deployed to fill in for an injured Henry, and while he did end up taking a backseat to Foreman, the 27-year-old did outlast Adrian Peterson.
The Tulane product was a great find. He carried the ball 56 times for 350 yards (6.3 yards per carry) and two touchdowns, while also adding 19 receptions for 87 yards.
His best game came in Week 12 against the New England Patriots, when he tallied 131 yards on just 12 carries, one of which went for a 68-yard touchdown.
Hilliard was also an asset in the return game, leading Tennessee with 22.1 yards per return on eight attempts.
Looking ahead to 2022, Hilliard will battle for one of the spots behind Henry, as well as kick return duties. His ability as a pass-catcher and returner gives him a good shot to land a role.
Hilliard is the second move Tennessee has made at running back in recent days, as the team also signed Trenton Cannon, who figures to challenge for special teams work, and more specifically in the return game.
