Tipping Point's Ben Shephard emotional after contestant donates winnings to charity after losing family

Tipping Point host Ben Shephard was left looking emotional after a contestant revealed he planned to donate his winnings to charity after losing his mum and brother-in-law to a heart condition.

Afqad from Manchester made it through to the final round on Wednesday's (May 4) edition of the ITV quiz show, which was when Shephard asked him what he would do if he won the jackpot counter.

"I would like to give the money to British Heart Foundation in the memory of my mother, who I sadly lost last year on Christmas Eve in a very sudden way," he replied.

"And also in the memory of my brother-in-law, who I lost exactly a month before my mother, again due to a heart condition - which is why I am here".

Taken aback, the host responded by praising Afquad.

"Goodness me, that's a fabulous way of celebrating their lives and remembering them," he said.

"And to be able to give them that money would be a special way for you to say thank you to that charity as well."

Later on in the show, after using up all his counters and the jackpot counter still not having dropped, Ben asked if Afqad would like to trade or take the £3,150 he had built up.

"I would like to take the money," he explained. "It's a lot and I think it's going to make a huge difference to the charity because I don't want anyone to lose their mother or their brother like I have done."

Viewers at home were also touched by the gesture.

Wanda tweeted: "Never wanted someone to win the jackpot more than Afqad. Donating his winnings to charity in memory of his mum and brother #TippingPoint"

Meanwhile, Jayne added: "What a lovely man," with Carlt adding, "Fair play to him."

Kyle also called Afquad "a kind soul" and Victoria said: "Aww bless him."

Tipping Point airs weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub from 4pm.
