Tipping Point host Ben Shephard faces criticism from viewers as he celebrates on set of ITV show

Ben Shephard was left standing with a massive cake laden with sparklers on the set of Tipping Point as the show turned 10. But, while there was a good reason to celebrate, the presenter faced criticism from viewers after a big change in format.

There's nothing more many people would rather do at 4pm than settle down on the sofa and watch an episode of the ITV quiz show,. hosted by Good Morning Britain anchor Ben. As well as aiming to answer as many questions correctly as possible, the goal for contestants on Tipping Point is to get their counters to nudge others on the show's notoriously harsh machine off the ledge so they can win big money.

Millions of viewers have seen both members of the public and famous faces try their luck on Tipping Point, with celeb spin-off Lucky Stars also proving a ratings winner. Tipping Point is one of those shows, just like The Chase and BBC1 rival Pointless, that seems to have been on television forever.

But it may surprise to hear that Tipping Point has just turned 10! Yes, we've had a whole decade of players willing the machine to play ball and Ben being left open mouthed by some of the bizarre answers given by contestants.

Earlier this week, Tipping Point marked its 10th birthday with an on set celebration, which saw presenter Ben handed a massive cake, featuring the colours of the machine, along with some edible counters. A picture of the cake was uploaded to the Tipping Point Twitter account, with a caption which read: "Celebrating 10 years of #TippingPoint on set with @benshephard."

However, the comments thread underneath the post was filled with comments from upset fans, hitting out at the fact that the number of players has been cut from four to three. Reacting to the change, one viewer responded: "Congratulations, but why change the format after 10 years ? If it's working and everyone loves the show; if it's not broken , why fix it?"

Airing the same grievance, another disgruntled fan reacted: "Good luck on 10 years but disappointed with the one change which I saw made no difference."
