Tipping Point contestant donates winnings to charity after losing mum and brother-in-law

A Tipping Point contestant has been praised by viewers after revealing his plans to donate his winnings to charity after losing his mum and brother-in-law. Afqad from Manchester made it through to the final round which was when he revealed what he would do if he won the jackpot counter.

"Have you thought about what you might like to do with the jackpot money if we get it out?" host Ben Shephard asked during the episode on Wednesday, May 4 and Afqad replied: "Yes Ben, I would like to give the money to British Heart Foundation in the memory of my mother... who I sadly lost last year on Christmas Eve in a very sudden way. And also in the memory of my brother-in-law, who I last exactly a month before my mother, again due to a heart condition and very suddenly so this is why I am here".

Ben looked emotional as he responded: "Goodness me! Well its a fabulous way of celebrating their lives and remembering them and to be able to give them that money would be a special way for you to say thank you to that charity as well". Later on in the show, after using up all his counters and the jackpot counter still not dropping, Ben asked if Afqad would like to trade or take the £3,150 he had built up.

"I would like to take the money," he explained: "It's a lot of money and I think it's going to make a huge difference to the charity because I don't want anyone to lose their mother or their brother like I have done". Ben replied: "That's going to be a lovely thing to do and I know they will be thrilled to bits Afqad, very well done!".

On Thursday, May 5, Ben Shephard shared a clip of the moment on Twitter and thanked the contestant for taking part. He said: "Such great work Afqad. Donating your £3150 winnings to the British Heart Foundation is a wonderful way of celebrating the lives of your Mother and Brother-in-law. Thank you for being a part of #TippingPoint!"

The selfless act saw fans of the ITV daytime quiz show take to social media to praise the contestant for donating his winnings. Wanda tweeted: "Never wanted someone to win the jackpot more than Afqad. Donating his winnings to charity in memory of his Mum and brother #TippingPoint" Jayne added: "Afqad. What a lovely man. Donating his money to BHF #tippingpoint". Carlt said: "Fair play to him for giving the money to charity. Well done Afqad #tippingpoint". Whilst viewer Kyle added: "Oh, what a kind soul donating his winnings to charity". Victoria said: "Aww bless him giving to charity #TippingPoint".
