This secluded countryside estate boasts a magnificent 18th century house, a 16th century castle and wooded estate grounds stretching over 300 acres. The entire property will cost you €8.5m.
Killaleigh Castle, which was built by the Gaelic MacEgan Clan around the year 1590, is no longer occupied despite being largely intact. It is the vast Sopwell House, built in 1745, that offers the living space on the sprawling Tipperary property.
The estate also features an old Bailiff’s House as well as a range of other cut-stone outbuildings including a Gardener’s Cottage and two gatehouses. Woodland rich in various species of trees and wildlife makes up about one third of the 300-acre grounds.
The local fauna includes pine martins, red squirrels, owls, foxes, hares and falcons. The property is flanked on one side by another 500 acres of woodland which provide an abundance of walking routes.
The principal residence, Sopwell House, is an impressive example of Georgian architecture and was designed by renowned architect Fancis Bindon.
The house itself covers 1,322 square metres featuring 10 bedrooms, five reception rooms, a morning room, study, drawing room, sitting room, kitchen and wine cellar. There is also a studio across the adjoining courtyard and staff quarters upstairs.
While the estate is secluded and private, it is reasonably accessible being 8km from the nearest town of Borrisokane and 20km from the nearest motorway.
