Tiny island 70 minutes from Liverpool that 'beats the Caribbean'

Just 70 minutes from Liverpool is an island that's home to beaches you could mistake for the Caribbean.

Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands. It sits in the Bay of St Malo, 14 miles from the French coast and 85 miles south of the English coast.

Thanks to its southerly location and position in the Channel, Jersey is usually warmer than England, giving British holidaymakers a reason to stay closer to home this summer. The island is home to several charming towns, imposing castles and a national park.

It's also packed with pubs, botanical treasures and historical landmarks. However, Jersey is perhaps best known for its stunning beaches.

The island has over 50 miles of coastline but it's St Brelade's Bay that frequently receives comparisons to the Mediterranean and Caribbean. On Tripadvisor, one reviewer wrote: "Better than the Caribbean. Without any doubt the best beach I’ve been to in years. The sand is so fine and picturesque."

A second, from St Helens, said: "What a beautiful beach, you wouldn't imagine somewhere so beautiful that can rival the beaches in the Caribbean that's within a short flight of Northern England. The sand is white and the sea is a beautiful sparkling blue and so clear, you need to visit this beach on your travels to Jersey."

And a third, from Southport, added: "Beautiful wide expanse of soft golden sand. Sunbeds, tents, brollies, and watersports for hire. Hotels, restaurants, bars and shops line the promenade. I felt like I was in the Mediterranean."

St Brelade's Bay has also received awards from the travel industry. Traveller's Choice named it as the third-best beach in the UK and following this, Tripadvisor ranked St Brelade's Bay as the 12th-best beach in Europe.

From Liverpool, you can fly to Jersey in one hour and 10 minutes. EasyJet has frequent flights to the island, starting from £43 (return).

Holidaymakers are recommended to stay in St. Helier due to its central location, but areas like Gorey, Bouley Bay and St Brelade's Bay are away from the hustle and bustle.
