Tina Turner song 'brings back lots of memories' of Diana, Prince William admits

Prince William says Tina Turner's song The Best 'brings back lots of memories' of his mum Diana.

Rock 'n' Roll icon Tina Turner has died at the age of 83 following a long illness. She had career spanning 60 years and even has a West End musical dedicated to her music.

But in December 2021, she was given a royal seal of approval when Prince William admitted during an interview to having a soft spot for the US legend's 1989 cover of Bonnie Tyler's The Best. William, 40, said the track reminds him of childhood, where he would reminisce a "real family moment" driving to school with mum Diana and brother Harry, the Mirror reports.

Speaking on Apple audio experience Time To Walk, William told listeners that the trio would listen to a variety of songs on the school run.

In order to ease the nerves of going back to boarding school, his mother would crack up the tunes - with one song, in particular, having stuck with him throughout the years.

He explained: "When I was younger, Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school.

"And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner's 'The Best' because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment.

"And my mother, she'd be driving along, singing at the top of her voice. And we'd even get the policeman in the car, he’d be occasionally singing along as well.

"You'd be singing and listening to the music right the way out into the gates of school when they dropped you off. When I listen to it now, it takes me back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of my mother."
