Tina Turner's cause of death as music legend dies peacefully at home in Switzerland

Tina Turner passed away at home in Switzerland following a long, unspecified illness.

The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll "died peacefully" at the age of 83 on Wednesday, with US president Joe Biden and former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton joining the likes Mick Jagger and Beyonce in paying tribute to the late music icon.

Tina's publicist Bernard Doherty announced the death in a statement and shared how the singer had been suffering from a "long illness" but did not specify the exact cause of death.

The Simply The Best singer suffered a stroke in 2013, just three months on from tying the knot with Erwin Bach, and was known to be struggling with a kidney disease and other illnesses prior to her death on Wednesday.

Tina urged her fans to "show their kidneys love" in one of her final social media posts shared just weeks before her passing.

Taking to Instagram for World Kidney Day in March, the Proud Mary hitmaker penned: "Today is International World Kidney Day. Why is it important? Because kidneys fail without pain. And that's why I'm telling you today: Show your kidneys love! They deserve it.

"My kidneys are victims of my not realising that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine. I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication.

"For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion. I am therefore delighted to be able to support a new international campaign for kidney health.

"You can read the whole story of my disease on the website www.showyourkidneyslove.com. Here you can find out how your kidneys work, what the risk factors are and how you can keep these important organs healthy. Let’s show our kidneys some love!"

Tina's death has devastated music fans and celebrities across the world, with social media flooded with tributes to the late singer following the announcement from her publicist on Wednesday.

The full statement confirming Tina's death reads: "Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock and Roll, has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.

"With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model. Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, USA. She became famous in the late 60s as the singer of the band Ike & Tina Turner Revue, but later she became successful worldwide as a solo artist.

Global hits like 'What's Love Got To Do With It', 'Private Dancer' and 'The Best', more than 180 million albums sold, 12 Grammy Awards and over three decades of sold-out stadium tours around the world are just part of her unique legacy.

"There will be a private funeral ceremony attended by close friends and family. Please respect the privacy of her family at this difficult time."
