Tina Carter's brutal EastEnders murder mirrored Chantelle Atkins' tragic final moments

EastEnders aired chilling similarities between the murders of Tina Carter and Chantelle Atkins, just months apart but both at the hands of Gray Atkins.

Tina lost her life in Monday night's episode, as she confronted Gray over his dark past.

Gray murdered her to silence her, before disposing of her body and covering his tracks.

Much about her final moments and what happened next almost mirrored a crime committed in the same house just three months earlier.

After years of emotional and physical abuse, Chantelle finally stood up to her abusive husband only for him to lash out with fatal consequences.

EastEnders' Tina Carter was murdered by Gray Atkins (BBC)

Gray has got away with his crime ever since, playing the grieving husband - that was until Tina exposed him.

This cost her her life as Gray lashed out again in horrifying scenes - with history almost repeating itself. Here are all the similarities between both of his horrific crimes...

Gray silenced them both

Gray silenced both his victims (BBC)

Gray cruelly took Chantelle's life after she found the courage to leave him, and expose his abuse.

As she screamed at him to let her leave, she told him what she really thought of him in powerful scenes.

Gray couldn't have the truth come out and in a moment of anger, he shoved her so hard she landed on the open dishwasher and became impaled on a knife.

Tina had been suspicious of Gray for weeks, and on the night of her death she figured out what really happened to Chantelle.

As a survivor of domestic abuse herself, Tina showed courage as she exposed Gray and threatened to tell the world.

Gray once again acted violently to keep his secret, murdering Tina just like he did his wife.

Tina and Chantelle died in the same room

Chantelle was left to die on the floor (BBC)

Not only did the tragic characters die in the same house, but it seemed to be the same room too.

Both ladies tried to escape Gray and the house, but were unable to do so.

Chantelle was murdered in her own kitchen, while Tina was shown laying dead on the sofa close by - while Gray had attacked her initially in the hallway.

Eerie dishwasher scene

Tina was told that the knives were the wrong way up (BBC)

Months before her death, Chantelle was forced to change her dishwasher loading habits by her controlling husband.

He insisted the sharp knives had to go in blade up, and this ultimately led to Chantelle's death as she landed on the sharp blade.

Just days before Tina's death aired, the same conversation happened - with many fans tipping it to hint at her own murder.

He told her to do the same with the knives, and while this did not feature in her death it certainly teased the tragedy ahead.

Desperate call for help

Chantelle tried to call Kheerat back but his battery died (BBC)

In their final moments, both Chantelle and Tina desperately called the person they possibly trusted the most.

Chantelle called new love interest Kheerat Panesar, but his battery ran out before he could answer.

Gray found her with the phone in her hand, leading to their final row before he brutally killed her.

Tina had just escaped Gray's clutches when she too made a panicked phone call to Mick Carter.

He didn't pick up as he was rowing with wife Linda, as he packed his bags to flee Walford with Tina.

Gray then found Tina hiding with phone in-hand, and as she died on the sofa she was still holding it.

Terrifying final moments

Chantelle stood up to Gray (BBC)

Tina and Chantelle were left in fear in the moments leading up to their deaths, just moments after being the bravest they had ever been.

Chantelle found her courage and her voice, and stood up to Gray after a terrifying chase around the house as she tried to flee.

Similarly, Tina was left running for her life and hiding in a room as he too chased her around the same kitchen.

A quick cover-up story

Gray ensured the other Albert Square residents saw him out and about after killing Chantelle (BBC)

As Chantelle was dying on the kitchen floor, instead of helping her Gray turned to survival mode.

He created himself an alibi, leaving the house to appear in different places including the pub and the shop.

Gray also bought a glass bottle of milk intentionally so he could drop it at the crime scene to feign shock, before calling for an ambulance and claiming to have found Chantelle dead.

This same strategic plotting came into play when he decided to kill Tina to silence her.

Gray wrapped up Tina's body before disposing of it (BBC)

After her death, he wrapped her body in a shower curtain and began clearing away the evidence - just like he had set up a scene to make Chantelle's death seem like an accident.

Gray later spoke to Shirley and Mick, having just disposed of Tina's body, to suggest she had gone on the run as planned and would never be found.

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
