Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet are an unusual couple — that’s not up for debate. While some celebrity relationships provoke awe (Meryl Streep and Martin Short), some provoke wonder (Beyoncé and Jay Z), and some adoration (Tom Holland and Zendaya), some unfortunate couplings provoke pure rage.
At the start, Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner did exactly that. The 28-year-old actor has an intense, devoted fan base, many of whom were unhappy to learn of his link to the 27-year-old reality TV star and beauty mogul. They called it a PR relationship. They willed it not be true.
But now, nearly two years have passed and Kylithée have exceeded all expectations. They’re still happily together, while keeping the relationship lowkey enough that people constantly question whether they may have broken up. For a Kardashian-adjacent human and the prototype of influencers everywhere, you’ve got to admit — that’s pretty impressive.
Here, we look back on the couple’s relationship history, from rumoured first meetings to current day.
January 2023: The pair properly meet for the first time
At this point, Kylie Jenner has been dating on-again-off-again boyfriend (and father of her children) Travis Scott since 2017. Their final breakup came at the end of 2022, when they were noted to have spent their holidays separately.
In early January, a source told US Weekly: “Kylie and Travis are off again, they were supposed to spend the holidays together, but she went to Aspen to be with her family and friends up there... This has happened so many times before, they’re known to be on again off again, but always remain friends and great coparents.”
On January 25, she was spotted talking to Timothée Chalamet on the front row of the Jean Paul Gaultier show at Paris Fashion Week. According to sources, this was their first meeting. Gossip account DeuxMoi then shared a video of them laughing together, prompting rumours about the pair being romantically interested in each other.
April 2023: Sources appear to confirm the relationship
In April, images circulated of Jenner’s black Range Rover parked outside Chalamet's Beverly Hills home. One eyewitness told Daily Mail that they saw Chalamet getting into Jenner's car after an event “looking around anxiously” and “texting constantly on his phone.”
A source told People that the pair were “hanging out and getting to know each other.” Another insider told Entertainment Tonight: “They are keeping things casual at this point. It’s not serious, but Kylie is enjoying hanging out with Timothée and seeing where it goes. It’s been really fun for her because it feels a lot different than her past relationships. It’s new and exciting for Kylie and she’s having a lot of fun [...] “Kylie decided she didn’t want to make things public with Timothée this past weekend at Coachella and really just wanted to chill and have fun with her friends.”
May 2023: Travis Scott is displeased with the pairing
Another source spoke to the press about Timothée and Kylie, saying that they’re essentially head over heels for each other. “They are becoming more comfortable with each other, but Kylie wants to take things day by day and see where it goes,” the source told Entertainment Tonight. “Her family thinks it's great that Kylie is doing her thing and they are supportive. Timothée loves that Kylie is such a hands-on mom and a boss. He appreciates her confidence and thinks she's incredibly beautiful.”
Travis Scott was decidedly less supportive of the union, with the same source saying: “Travis is not thrilled about Kylie moving on, but they are still cordial and focused on co-parenting and being the best parents they can be.”
July 2023: Travis Scott disses Timothée on a track
All was quiet and calm in the Kylithée household in July, until Travis Scott seemed to comment on the relationship on a track from his new album Utopia. On the song Meltdown, Scott made a veiled reference to Chalamet's role in Wonka, rapping: “Chocolate AP and chocolate the Vs, Got the Willy Wonka factory, Burn an athlete like it's calories, Find another flame hot as me, bitch. Yeah, is you fuckin' crazy? (Nah) is you fuckin' crazy? (What?)”
August 2023: Breakup rumours circulate
Back in August last year, everyone thought the relationship had run its requisite six-month course. Until these breakup rumours were quickly dispelled. “Kylie and Timothée haven’t been spending that much time together recently because they both have very busy schedules,” a source told UsWeekly.
“But they’re still communicating on a pretty regular basis and have remained friends despite the fact that they don’t hang out that often. They run in the same circle of friends, and have a great time when they’re together, but it’s not that serious. Kylie is having fun and although she’s open to seeing where things go, they’re not in a committed relationship. Things are very casual.”
September 2023: Cue the PDA-heavy public appearances
The relationship went properly public in September of last year, when Kylie and Timothée were spotted snogging at Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour gig in Los Angeles. The videos went viral and mocking ensued, but Kylithée were undeterred.
Later that month, they appeared at the US Open together, their first officially photographed public appearance, and were seen to be very affectionate with each other.
And just before the month was up, a video of Jenner on the front row at the Prada fashion show revealed Jenner’s lockscreen to be a picture of her and Chalamet kissing.
December 2023: The pair become boyfriend-girlfriend
According to sources, it took until December of last year for Jenner to start officially calling Chalamet her boyfriend. “[Kylie is] incredibly happy,” the source said, explaining that they had just put a label on their relationship. “He is very supportive of her career and she of his. They both try to attend important events for each other. He is very good for Kylie. Since dating him, she seems very content, relaxed and focused. Her family loves him.”

The couple attended their first awards together in January, though they arrived on the red carpet separately, so they were not photographed together on arrival. However, they Chalamet and Jenner stayed together all night, with many noting how intimate they seemed. People even attempted to lipread their filmed, audio-free conversations to attempt to see what they were saying.
Also in January, a source told Entertainment Tonight: “[They] are super serious and very involved with each other’s day-to-day lives, family on both sides included. On Kylie’s side, Kris [Jenner] and Kim [Kardashian] are especially supportive and think there’s so much potential.”
April 2024: Pregnancy rumours!
It was smooth sailing for a few months until Kylie and Timothée hit a classic celebrity relationship bump in the road: pregnancy rumours. Jenner currently already has two children - Stormi, six, and Aire, two - with Travis Scott, so the idea of Timothée becoming her second baby daddy is quite dramatic. The world is gripped.
Sadly, the rumours were quickly dismissed. “Kylie is not pregnant,” an insider definitively told UsWeekly.
July 2024: We get the first glimpse into how they spend time with each other
The main criticism of Jenner and Chalamet’s relationship was initially, “What on earth do they talk about?” Well, in July, we found out. Or, rather, a source told us a little bit about how they spend their time. Spoiler: turns out they love... board games?
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, they said: “Kylie and Timothée like to do low-key date nights and keep their relationship under the radar in order to feel some sense of normalcy. They both want to have a mature relationship where they aren't constantly in the public eye. They know that’s not always feasible, but they both make an effort to respect each other’s privacy.
“They like to have alone time and spend time with Kylie’s family and each other’s friends. They cook at home, go to dinners, travel when they can, play board games, and are just their authentic selves together. They are both honest with each other and there isn't any void of communication.”
August 2024: They go on holiday together with friends
Timothée and Kylie were pictured leaving a private jet in August, confirming that they had been away together on her big birthday trip to the Bahamas. “It was a nice break for her. She’s incredibly happy with him,” an insider told People. “She’s never been in love like this before. He’s great for her [...] Her family loves him. He’s so discreet and always has her back. He’s very much a gentleman and everything that Kylie deserves.”
December 2024: Kylie supports Timothée at the after-party for A Complete Unknown
Silence. Crickets. For months. Doubts fly. Some even question whether Kylie may have dumped Timothée over the weird new moustache he’s had to grow for his role in Marty Supreme. And then, finally, it is confirmed: still together!
In early December, Jenner and Chalamet were pictured holding hands at an after-party for the premiere of Timothée’s Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. They looked as loved up as ever, dispelling breakup rumours for good. Maybe this two have more mileage than we thought.
