Chelsea are in a situation where their team is not as complete as many believed it would be at this stage of the transfer window. The Blues are still in the process of a rebuild and it could be about to get even more complicated, as Timo Werner has become the latest Chelsea striker to want out of the club since the departure of Romelu Lukaku.
The Germany forward wants to have more opportunities to play regularly ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later in this year. As it stands, he is a Thomas Tuchel player, but that could change before the end of the season and RB Leipzig could play a part in this.
Tuchel was not afraid to call out those who want to leave the club in his post-match conference after Chelsea's defeat to Arsenal. He accused some of his players of being more focused on departing than actually playing. It's likely that Werner is one of those referred to, especially after admitting that his Stamford Bridge future is uncertain.
Chelsea are taking a look at PSG target, Nordi Mukiele. The RB Leipzig right-back is on the radar and Werner could be used as a bargaining chip to secure a deal, according to Foot Mercato journalist, Santi Aouna.
Paris Saint-Germain have already put in their bid and were close to finalising the deal before Chelsea jumped into the race. The Blues know all too well the feeling of their transfers being hijacked, with Barcelona following them every step of the way this transfer window.
Mukiele has secretly become a shining star in the Bundesliga. He is a stellar example of a defender that can play either centre-back or right-back, something that would be to Thomas Tuchel's liking. Jules Kounde may be on the way to Barcelona so it'll be a wise move for the Blues. They could also kill two birds with one stone.
Todd Boehly is aware that he will need to get rid of some players this window in order to balance the books. Werner earns a whooping £272,000 per week - the highest in the squad since the departure of Romelu Lukaku. Releasing him back to his former club will give Boehly a large chunk to play with for new signings and a wage restructure, if a deal can be struck.
Werner has struggled in the Premier League since moving from RB Leipzig in 2020. With only 23 goals in 89 games for Chelsea, the German has failed to match the incredible numbers he produced in the Bundesliga and European competition before he left.
His last season playing for Leipzig saw him register 34 goals in 45 games. Throwing Werner into the mix for Leipzig may be a dream homecoming for both club and player. A link-up with Christopher Nkuku - who is currently producing the best numbers of his career - would be lethal.
Werner may not be 100 per cent suited to the tough physicality of the Premier League, but he has proven himself to be a lethal finisher in the German top flight. It would be great to see him scoring again!
