Timo Werner breaks silence to confirm Chelsea departure amid £25m transfer to RB Leipzig

Timo Werner has confirmed that his time with Chelsea has ended as he prepares to return to RB Leipzig. football.london understands the move is worth around £25million, including bonuses, many of which are viewed as achievable.

The German international spent two years at Stamford Bridge, having joined from the Bundesliga club in the summer of 2020 for a £49.5 million fee and has helped the club to the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup trophies. However, the 26-year-old, despite enjoying a healthy relationship with fans, has been unable to replicate the goalscoring prowess he did in Germany.

Werner recorded 23 goals and 21 assists during his time with Chelsea while making 89 appearances. His time at the club has seen Werner utilised in a number of roles, but more frequently, the striker has found himself among Thomas Tuchel's substitutes. The duo's relationship is said to have become strained, while Werner, of course, has ambitions to be in his nation's World Cup squad for the coming winter.

Nevertheless, Werner's time at Stamford Bridge appears to have a large place in his heart. In a statement, Werner said: "Dear Blues, Today marks the end of my journey with Chelsea FC.

"I am incredibly grateful for the time I spent at this special club. At this point, I would like to express my appreciation for my teammates, the coaches & staff, and especially for you, the special supporters of Chelsea Football Club.

"I felt so much love and support throughout the last two years, and I will never forget how you guys stood behind me in good and in challenging times! We lifted trophies like the Champions League together, and I will always remember the song you wrote and chanted for me. I'm already looking forward to hopefully playing at Stamford Bridge again one day."

"See you soon, Timo."
