A SCOTTISH island's chip shop has been named one of the best in the UK by Time Out magazine.
The prestigious travel guide named Frankie’s Fish and Chips in Shetland on its list of the 17 best places to enjoy the popular take-out dish across the UK.
The island chip shop wasn't the only Scottish entry on the list as it was joined by two other takeaways, one from Moray and one from Fife.
Time Out prides itself on providing travel guides that are written by locals “who know their cities inside out”.
The magazine said that Frankie’s was not only the UK’s most northerly chippy, but “also one of its best”.
It said: “Sourcing premium and sustainable Shetland seafood, this spot was set up in the bucolic village of Brae to provide locals and tourists with the ultimate fish and chips experience.
“You can’t go wrong with a classic order of crisp battered haddock, but we’d also recommend saving some stomach space for a battered sausage on the side.”
Frankie’s, based in Brae, won the prize for best chip shop (north) at the Scottish Fish and Chip Awards in Glasgow just last November.
Joining the Shetland takeaway on the list were another two Scottish establishments.
Fochabers Fish Bar in Moray and Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife also made the list as they came in sixth and fifth place respectively.
Time Out described the Anstruther eatery by saying “if there’s a general rule of thumb to follow when it comes to finding good fish and chips, it’s that the closer a chippy is to a body of water, the better it’s likely to be”.
“That rationale certainly rings true for the Anstruther Fish Bar.”
