The debate enclave in Harbor Springs, Michigan, serves as a space for Walz to remain true to himself and his gubernatorial identity, rather than adopting a polished debating style akin to his Republican opponent, JD Vance.
During his time in Harbor Springs, Walz has engaged in various activities, including hiking, enjoying pizza at a local restaurant, and visiting a nearby farm where he interacted with goats and rabbits, purchased farm produce, and even took part in shooting pumpkins from a hydraulic launcher.
At the property where Walz and his team are lodged, televisions have been tuned to professional and college football games, with staff members donning attire supporting their favorite teams. In between debate sessions, some staff have been seen casually tossing a football around.
While most participants embraced the casual camp atmosphere, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has been portraying JD Vance in the prep sessions, surprised everyone by arriving in a formal red tie, reminiscent of the attire often sported by the Ohio senator on the campaign trail.
