Tim Sherwood released his inner Chris Kamara after producing a hilarious blunder whilst watching Preston vs QPR for Sky on Saturday afternoon - with the former Tottenham boss forgetting which end the home team were attacking.
With no Premier League fixtures until Boxing Day as a result of the World Cup, Sherwood - alongside regular pundits Paul Merson, Clinton Morrison and Michael Dawson - was instead on Championship duties as the English second tier embarked upon its second gameweek after a three-week long winter break.
Sherwood was tasked with giving live updates on Preston North End vs Queens Park Rangers, with the latter struggling for form recently following the departure of Michael Beale to Rangers at the end of last month. But just three minutes in, Sherwood confused viewers up and down the nation after calling for a penalty for the Lilywhites - only to realise it was at the wrong end.
Highlights cut to a challenge by QPR midfielder Andre Dozzell on Ched Evans in the Preston area, with the youngster aiming to recover the ball after an attack broke down. Sherwood went up in arms, claiming for a clear penalty with the Premier League winner thinking Evans had been fouled on the other side of the pitch. However, he could not have been more wrong.
"Looks like a penalty shout for Preston. For me, it has to be a penalty," Sherwood said.
"[Andre] Dozzell just dives in. It's a nailed-on penalty. He's got his toe to it and Dozzell just takes him out but I haven't seen the referee so I don't know what he has given."
Confusion grew in the studio as the pundits looked at their screens in order to gain clarity on the situation, with puzzled faces aiming to look at the situation and back Sherwood up. However, after a period of silence, Morrison soon described what had happened by reluctantly telling Sherwood he was about 80 yards down the wrong end.
Sherwood, clearly looking bamboozled, soon saw the funny side as the studio burst into raptures of laughter. The incident brought back memories of Chris Kamara's hilarious mix-up in a Portsmouth vs Blackburn fixture in April 2010, where the much-loved pundit thought Anthony Vanden Borre had been substituted - only for host Jeff Stelling to tell him he had been sent off.
