Former NFL quarterback Tim Jenkins recently broke down Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix’s performance against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7 on his YouTube channel, All Things QB.
Nix had a smaller sample size of passes from this game, where he completed 16-of-26 passes for 164 yards. Nix also showed off his mobility, adding 10 carries for 75 yards.
Jenkins, of course, explained what happened when Nix threw the ball between a pair of wide-open receivers in the first quarter. Jenkins pushed back on the notion that Nix should have known two players would be open on the play. Jenkins also said tight end Lucas Krull should not have slowed down on his route. That said, Nix still has to make the throw.
“If you’re ready to be the franchise guy in Denver, you cannot miss this one. … that’s a layup.”
Nix’s scrambling ability was also highlighted by Jenkins.
“I think when you look at Bo Nix overall, his athleticism is almost what I think is helping him separate himself early,” said Jenkins. “You know as a rookie quarterback, are you going to be able to see everything going on? No, you’re not. So when you have the ability to create, when you have the ability to scramble, I think it’s going to pay — it pays huge dividends and the Broncos’ ability on offense to generate plays, generate points.”
On Nix’s near interception, Jenkins began with a little praise (“The ability to avoid a hit is just awesome!”) to disbelief (“Dude, what are we doing?”). “The ball is so sailed that if you watch, the receiver doesn’t even think the ball’s coming to him,” Jenkins explained. Thankfully, the Saints defender was unable to corral the errant pass, and the Broncos finished the drive with a field goal.
