Tim Hortons Weston-super-Mare review: I tried the Canadian diner's newest branch

The newest fast-food chain in Somerset has arrived in the shape of the Canadian diner Tim Hortons. The stylish new outlet aims to provide an alternative to popular fast food giants such as McDonald's or KFC. Somerset Live reporter Cameron Jenkins visited on its opening day to get a feel of what diners can expect.

From the exclusive Timbits, Iced Capps, Freshly Baked Donuts and Tims Crispy Chicken Sandwich - there is plenty on offer at Tim Hortons' new Weston-super-Mare branch. I was told one of the best-selling items was the big breakfast wrap, which came with a hash brown and drink for just £3.49. So we are talking about a very affordable price.

As stated on the website, it is: "A tortilla wrap filled with a sausage patty, rashers of bacon, a freshly cracked egg, hash brown and a sauce of your choice." Alongside the hash brown, it was delicious, but I had to put it into perspective.

Just across the road was a McDonald's, and upon arrival at Weston Links you are faced with a big question: Tim Hortons or McDonald's? Well, first let's look at the price. Breakfast meal deals start at £2.99 and remain that way until 11am. My regular big breakfast wrap meal was £3.49, which is £1.10 less expensive than the breakfast roll over the road at Mcdonald's.

I mean, they are not a world apart in terms of quality, they share many similar tastes. However, the price really makes Tim Hortons a winner in this situation. Alongside the breakfast, there are also a wealth of other sweet foods which you simply won't find at any other fast-food chain.

The assortment of doughnuts, pancakes and Timbits (small balls created from the centre of a doughnut), make it really stand out.

It kind of feels like if Krispy Kreme and McDonald's had a child, this would be the outcome. It was however an enjoyable experience, and I will have to return to try the lunchtime menu. As for the breakfast - a cheap, no thrills but an enjoyable meal is what you'll come to expect.

Tim Hortons' new Weston-super-Mare branch is located at The Poaches Pocket Weston Links, Western-super-mare BS23 3WL. More information about the restaurant can be found on Tim Hortons' website.
