Tim Burton and Gillian Flynn team up for Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman remake

Tim Burton and Gillian Flynn team up for Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman remake.

Film director Tim Burton, known for his unique and eccentric style, is teaming up with renowned writer Gillian Flynn to bring a fresh take on the cult classic, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman. The original film, released in 1958, featured Allison Hayes as the larger-than-life protagonist, while a 1993 remake by Christopher Guest starred Daryl Hannah. The film's premise has also inspired a couple of low-budget parodies over the years.

According to a recent report from Deadline, Tim Burton will take the helm as director for this reimagined version, with Gillian Flynn penning the script. Flynn, recognized for her work on Sharp Objects and Gone Girl, is known for her dark and suspenseful storytelling. Together, Burton and Flynn are expected to bring a fresh perspective to this iconic tale.

Burton, celebrated for his unconventional and visually-striking films, began his career as an animator. Over time, he has established himself as one of Hollywood's most unique and imaginative directors. With his distinct visual style and penchant for offbeat characters, Burton seems like an ideal fit for the whimsical and fantastical world of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman.

The original film follows the story of a wealthy heiress who undergoes a transformation into a towering giantess after a close encounter with an alien spacecraft. Made on a meager budget of just $88,000, the film has since become a beloved example of classic 1950s science fiction. While the 1993 remake failed to resonate with critics, Burton's ability to infuse his signature quirkiness into the film may breathe new life into the story's kitschy premise.

This isn't the first time Burton has playfully reinvented '50s sci-fi tropes. His cult film Mars Attacks!, based on the Topps trading cards, paid homage to the cheesy flying saucer movies of the era. Burton's approach to Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman presents yet another opportunity for him to put his creative spin on beloved retro science fiction.

Although the casting for the film's giantess character remains unknown, Burton could potentially consider collaborating with his previous muse, Jenna Ortega, who starred in his films Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Ortega's talent and experience working with Burton could make her a strong candidate for the role.

Fans of both Tim Burton's distinctive style and the original Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting this reimagined version. With a visionary director at the helm and a talented writer behind the script, the film promises to be a bold and imaginative take on the classic tale of a colossal woman causing chaos.
