When TikToker Olivia Moffitt found herself in a fashion crisis at a three-day wedding in Jervis Bay, she never expected her dress dilemma to go viral. But thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Coves Boutique in Sussex Inlet, what could have been a disaster turned into a wholesome AF tale of community spirit and out of this world customer service.
“I almost wore a white dress to somebody’s wedding,” Olivia confessed in her TikTok, which has 1.7 million views at the time of writing. The confusion stemmed from misreading the invitation, which specified white and beige for a pre-wedding dinner. Olivia mistakenly thought this applied to the actual wedding day as well.

Realising her error just hours before the ceremony, Olivia panicked. “I was like, ‘love, it’s not white and beige.’ We’ve literally messed it up,” she recalled telling her partner.

“I would rather sit in the tent and not go to the wedding than come out in a white, flowy dress. Like, that’s just wrong.”
With the nearest shops an hour’s drive away and time ticking, Olivia desperately called Coves Boutique owned by sister-in-laws Brittney Resch and Kirstin Saunders. Brittney, who was at the shop that day, went above and beyond trying on dresses herself and sending photos to Olivia.
“She sounded so stressed,” Brittney told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“I thought, let’s see what we can do.”

Olivia told PEDESTRIAN.TV that she was already anxious making the phone call to the boutique but Brittney made the whole process easier.
“I’m someone that has really bad anxiety, I don’t really do phone calls. Calling that place was so nerve wracking, but I had to call and just be like, ‘If I drive all the way there, do you have dresses?’
“And she was the nicest person I’ve ever spoken to in terms of customer service, like, it was crazy. And she was like, ‘You know what, give me your personal number.’ She had no idea who I was. She had no idea that I do social media.”

Brittney, being the angel that she is, also arranged for the dresses to be delivered by boat. “She said to me, ‘You know what my friend owns, Sussex inlet pontoons. If you give him $20 he will drive the dress to you by boat,'” Olivia recounted, still in disbelief.
“To me, it wasn’t a big thing, because it’s an hour drive or a two hour round trip for her. And I went, well, it’s only half an hour for us there and back, so if we can do it, then why not help someone out?” said Brittney.
The delivery itself became an adventure when the boat got stuck on a sandbank. “Every single person from the wedding went into the water,” Olivia said.
“[My partner] went in in his pants to get this dress. By the way, I had probably not even one hour.”

Once Olivia tried on the green dress, it was love at first sight. “I looked like Tinkerbell,” she gushed in her video.
“I would never have picked this dress before. This is insane.”
The story quickly went viral, with Coves Boutique reaping the well deserved benefits.
“In 48 hours, we’d gone from like 800 people following our Instagram to like 1800,” Brittney shared with us.
The timing couldn’t have been better for the newly established boutique. “We only opened up on the 17th of October [2024],” Brittney revealed.

Olivia was keen to share her experience to highlight the importance of supporting small businesses. “You don’t experience customer service like that anymore,” she said.
“I honestly just wanted to share it… hoping that it would help them boost a little bit.”
And that it did! The viral moment has had a major impact on Coves Boutique. “We’ve had quite a few girls asking for the dress,” Brittney noted.
“There’s only three left in Australia.”

The unexpected publicity has also boosted interest in their upcoming online store launch. “We’ve got a lot more people following now, so hopefully we get a bit more support in the next coming weeks, people signing up for when we go online,” Brittney added.
“Always go that little bit more, that extra mile, because it doesn’t take much. You could make someone’s day, make someone’s year. You never know what someone’s going through,” Brittney continued.
In the end, what could have been a wedding fashion faux pas became an unforgettable story of community, kindness, and a little bit of chaos. Truly, this story has restored my faith in humanity.
As Olivia put it, “If I didn’t film it and take photos of every single thing, you just wouldn’t believe it.”
