A TikTok user has shared her simple trick to help people check if their partner is looking for love elsewhere or not. The video, which has now been viewed more than 2.4million times, explains how appearing on popular dating app Tinder long after you've coupled up is a 'major red flag'.
Posting the video on TikTok - under the username Trinniiitty - the woman says that if your friends have seen your partner's profile in Tinder recently, they've got some explaining to do. She claims this is because Tinder profiles don't often appear on the app if they've been inactive for a long period of time.
According to Trinity: "Just a PSA, if they're like 'oh yeah that's an old Tinder account they saw, I deleted the app a long time ago. Tinder only shows profiles that have been active within seven days..."
Trinity's video has seen thousands of people reply, with one user, Thanksalotchewidiot, saying: "And that's how my ex got GOT. And his first pic was him with MY DOG." Idaniahopkin added: "And here I thought I was crazy and this boy had the audacity to lie straight to my face."
Tinder's own policy aligns with showing the most active accounts first. But goes short of confirming that they don't show accounts which haven't been active in the last week.
In a blog post on the Tinder algorithm, the app said: "We prioritise potential matches who are active, and active at the same time. We don't want to waste your time showing you profiles of inactive members. We want you chatting and meeting IRL (in real life)."
Other users replying to Trinity's post had doubts that it was true, saying that if you swipe through all the active profiles in your area, you would eventually get to inactive ones.

Cecelia Sigalove wrote: "False. My friend accounts got banned like a whole year ago and she moved away and guys from her hometown have said they’ve seen her hella old profile." Trinity replied: "but you can see inactive acc’s if you swipe through every inactive account in the area."
Alyssa Birch asked: "Is that true? My ex said he saw my tinder account and I hadn't been on it for months." Trinity responded by saying: "I mentioned in other comments that it's not 100 per cent certain that they've been active recently, although it's likely, it could be because they have no other accounts to show."
Avs questioned: "Wait are you sure?? Cause ppl always say they see my acc but I haven’t been on it for months cause I got logged out?£ Trinity told her: "If they swipe through allllll of the active users, it can show inactive users!! it’s rare but it happens."
