Popular TikToker Chris Olsen has recounted a terrifying experience on a New York City subway that left him and his friend Caroline Haroldson shaken to the core.
What began as a routine trip quickly escalated into chaos as they witnessed an alleged stabbing unfold right before their eyes.
In a TikTok video detailing the event, Chris explained how the situation escalated from a seemingly ordinary altercation to a life-threatening ordeal.
“We just basically witnessed a stabbing and almost died on the subway ourselves,” Chris revealed in a TikTok video.
He explained that there was apparently a man yelling on their subway car.
Initially, Chris seemed relatively calm about the situation. “So people yell at each other on the subway often. When they started yelling, Cara got a little nervous, but I was like, it’s gonna be okay. This just kind of happens,” he recounted.
Most passengers around them were disengaged, Chris noted, “Most people have their headphones in, so they aren’t really listening to what’s going on, but Cara and I are listening to the whole thing.”
However, the situation took a dark turn when Cara spotted one of the arguing passengers pull out a knife.
The mood shifted dramatically when one of the men involved in the altercation rushed towards the other. Chris described the panic on the subway: “Every single person on the train gets up and starts running right at Cara and I because we’re near the end of the car now.”
In a moment of quick thinking and adrenaline-fueled strength, Chris managed to force open the doors between subway cars, allowing passengers to escape the immediate danger. “I somehow use adrenaline and my untapped superhero strength to rip it open,” he said.
The situation worsened as passengers found themselves trapped in the front of the car with no means of escape. “We get pushed all the way to the front of that next car, but the door in front of that is completely locked, all we can hear behind us is people are screaming,” Chris explained.
“We don’t know if someone has brought out a gun. We don’t know who else has been stabbed.”
They kept trying to open the door with no luck, until Chris said that someone eventually pulled the emergency break, bringing the subway to a stop.
“One of the guys in front of us is yelling back at everyone to try to calm down and stop screaming, because it’s just making it worse for everyone.
“Meanwhile, we still don’t know what’s happening behind us. We don’t know the reason for their screams,” Chris said.
The ordeal lasted for what felt like an eternity to those involved, with Chris estimating, “It must have been like five minutes, but it felt like 30.”
Fortunately, the subway conductor eventually arrived with a key to open the locked door, allowing the terrified passengers to move to safety.
Chris and Cara, despite maintaining their composure during the incident, were deeply affected. “As soon as we get out of the car, both start crying,” Chris shared.
This frightening incident follows a string of violent occurrences on the NYC subway system. Most notably, on December 22, 2024, a woman was tragically burned alive on a Brooklyn subway car.
The victim, recently identified as 57-year-old Debrina Kawam, was reportedly homeless and died from her injuries after being doused with a flammable liquid and set alight.
Lead suspect Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, is currently facing first-degree murder charges for the death of Kawam. Uncovered surveillance footage reportedly showed him sitting in front of Kawam before starting the fire, then leaving the train and watching the fire engulf the victim from the subway platform
Chris concluded his recount with a heartfelt plea to his followers: “The subway — please stay safe. Just please stay safe. There’s been too much that’s been happening on there.”
Two separate subway stabbings occurring on New Year’s day have been reported in New York City, however it is not confirmed which incident Chris is referring to.
