TikTok star Charli D'Amelio struggles to pronounce Dermot Kennedy's name

TikTok star Charli D'Amelio admitted to being a huge Dermot Kennedy fan in a recent post.

The LA resident is the most-followed individual on the platform with over 140.7 million followers.

She was asked by fans what her favourite song was and she revealed her love for the Dublin man during the Q&A.

Charli, who is just 18 years old, admitted to having a few beloved tracks, including Getting Older by Billie Eilis, Barely Love My Mind by Lydia and Dermot’s For Island Fires and Family.

Irish fans were delighted to see Dermot getting recognition for his work but some couldn’t help but laugh at the social media star's pronunciation of his Irish name.

The American obviously wasn't familiar with the name as she called him “Der-Maught Kennedy”.

Fans were quick to correct the star with one saying: “Did you just say derMOT I’m sorry for laughing. I’m Irish and it’s actually DERmot”

While another said, “Dermot, dermit is how it’s pronounced”.

Meanwhile someone else commented, “Dermot is actually pronounced like Dermit.”

It's not surprising that Dermot's success caught the eye of TikTok’s biggest star.

He began busking on the streets of Dublin and has worked his way to international stardom.

The musician's album Without Fear became number one in Ireland and the UK.

He was also nominated as international male solo artist in 2020 at the BRITS and he's won RTE Choice Music Prize for Irish Song of the Year with Better Days.
