Flash mobbing has seen a huge comeback on TikTok recently. The act usually involves a group of people suddenly breaking out into a song or dance in a public place before quickly disappearing.
They're often designed to go viral to promote a stage play, song or product. And while it is usually a New York subway staple, it seems like Manchester has their own resident flash mobber.
His name is Cian Ducrot, an Irish singer songwriter who has garnered 3.8m followers on TikTok with videos of him breaking out into song at iconic Manchester venues. Scrolling through his page, you'll find Cian singing renditions of his latest songs at places like the Arndale, Piccadilly Train Station and a city centre tram.

The videos are entertaining and hilarious on both parts with quick cutaways and close ups of unsuspecting Mancs making double takes or stunned expressions when Cian starts to sing, backed up by a choir disguised like shoppers or commuters. But perhaps his best video is the one which shows his failed attempts at asking residents if he could sing for them at the Manchester Victoria train station.
In the video, Cian asks passerbys if he could take up 30 seconds of their time to sing a song for them. One woman who initially looks interesting immediately declines the minute he mentions the words "song" and video and walks away almost in disgust saying "ooh nooo thank you".
Cian sees the funny side of the interaction and powers on. He tries to rope in some more collaborators who are more polite with their rejection by telling him they have a train to catch.
To which Cian concedes that he could have chosen a better spot to ask. "Train station is a bad place to ask I suppose people are in a rush", he says in the video.
The video was in response to a comment from a person who Cian had asked to stop that day, who also told him they had a train to catch. Cian managed to get the video he wanted which was of him singing to a young man and woman who were then surprised by a choir that Cian brought along with him to flashmob.

The outtakes have racked up 7.2m views with Cian's supporters commenting how they would have stopped to hear his dulcet tones. One person commented: "I would gladly miss my train to listen even just 30 seconds of your song..."
Another said: "They don't know what they have just missed. I was waiting to hear it. Damn." While another chimed in and said: "I bet they are regretting it now. What you are doing is brilliant and you can sing for me anytime."
