TikTok made me eat my Asda orange in the shower

Before we start, this is for fun, right?

I read (watched a TikTok) that eating an orange in the shower was an 'experience'. People said they felt revitalised, amazing and calm after enjoying the fruit under the free flow of water.

There was a liberation in knowing the mess created by an orange would be instantly washed away, so you could enjoy it uninhibited. And the peel, left to steam was said to give off an aromatic scent.

The trend went viral on the social media platform about a year ago and has resurfaced, but it was originally an article in Men's Health Magazine in February 2017 and before that it was a Sub Reddit dedicated to the consumption of various citrus fruits while taking your daily wash. Some on Reddit claimed they felt like a "wild beast", others confessed to "growling" and another made it a ritual after following the ways of the "Shower Orange an Enlightenment of the Soul".

With a cost of living crisis, this seemed like a cheap and easy way to boost my mood. I like oranges, I like showers, why not both at the same time?

I'll admit, I have partaken in a snack in the bath before - not like a meal, but glass of juice, a nibble of chocolate, why not the shower? So armed with a Spanish orange from Asda, I headed to the bathroom, much to the bemusement of my family.

I had already settled on eating it first so I could then wash as usual and potentially enjoy the fragrant smell of the orange peel after placing it on the side of the bath. It was difficult to open, made harder when some of the water unexpectedly splashed in the way.

Placing the peel on the side of the bath, I think I started eating the segments a bit too fast, trying to get it over with. But about halfway through, I actually just stood there enjoying the orange and the hot water, my mind emptying. Maybe this is how the great thinkers of our time mulled over their most puzzling questions on life itself.

Then I laughed out loud at myself for the sheer absurdity of it all. Eating, nude, while I get rained on.

But you know, that put me in a great mood. Studies have proved laughter is a fabulous way to boost your health and this was with added vitamin C.

I didn't smell the peel while showering, however, I did leave it in there when the steam was escaping through the window and when I went back in, it smelt amazing.

I don't think I will get to the stage where I see an orange and think I must get a shower, like a weird Pavlov's dog situation, but would I do it again? Yeah.

I wouldn't say it was 'life changing', but it is an innovative way to get one of my five-a-day, cheap to do and it does give you a reason to take a little extra time for yourself.
