Tiger Woods set to play at Masters as Augusta confirm pre-tournament media schedule

Tiger Woods is set to compete at the Masters next week, after tournament organisers confirmed he would face the media in the build-up to the first major of the season.

The five-time Masters champion, who most recently put on the Green Jacket in victory when pulling off a stunning one-shot win in 2019, has played just once so far in 2023, when finishing T45th at the Genesis Invitational.

That was Woods’ first non-major PGA Tour start since 2020, having played in only three competitive events last year as he continued to recover from the severe leg injuries sustained in a car accident in February 2021.

Woods revealed in November he had developed plantar fasciitis in his right foot, adding to his injury woes, and the 47-year-old has regularly emphasised just how much work is needed on his body before and after rounds to allow him to compete.

It was at Augusta National that he made his competitive return last year, just 14 months on from suffering those life-threatening injuries, as Woods shot an opening round of 71 to sit in the top ten after 18 holes on his way to making the cut and finishing 47th.

The 15-time major champion has only once failed to make the cut at the Masters, back in 1996 when playing as an amateur. He returned a year later to win by 12 shots.

Woods will hold a press conference at Augusta on Tuesday next week at 4pm BST, with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm up earlier in the day. Cameron Smith is the only LIV players included in the interview schedule - he will face questions at 8pm on Monday.
