Tiger Woods outlines 2023 goals as he reflects on PGA Tour return at Genesis Invitational

Tiger Woods has revealed his goals for the year ahead after the golfing great made his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour at the Genesis Invitational.

Woods had been absent from the Tour for seven months, with the American's last outing coming at last summer's Open Championship at St Andrews. 2022 proved to be a tricky year for the 15-time major champion, having competed just three times due to injuries sustained in a car accident two years ago.

At The Masters last April, the three-time green jacket winner confirmed his career on the PGA Tour would now be a part-time one as he continues to feel the effects of his fitness problems.

Whilst his season last year started in April, Woods has kicked off his 2023 campaign a little earlier after teeing it up at Riviera last week. The Genesis Invitational is one that is extremely close to Woods' heart, having made his Tour debut at the famous course, whilst also now acting as the tournament's host.

And this made it a special one to make his return on. Speaking after his tied-45th finish, the American told CBS : "This tournament means a lot to not only myself but my family and my foundation. To be able to go from my PGA Tour debut, you could say, to now being the host of this event, I would never of foreseen that.

"I am very lucky, and very thankful - thankful for all the players for coming out and playing this week. Genesis, all of the people that are part of the golf club, it just makes it so much more special. Even look back at all of those memories as a 16-year-old little kid to see where I am at now."

In the aftermath of his return, the question now on everybody's lips is when will Woods be back out competing again. The American went on to pinpoint competing in the four majors as his basic goal for the rest of this campaign and the coming years.

When asked when he would be teeing it up next, he added: "Competitively, I don't know. Each and every year from here going forward is playing all the majors. I am not going to play too much more than that, my body, leg and my back won't allow me to play much more than that anymore.

"That was my goal last year, and I was able to play three of the four. This year hopefully I could play all four and this will be my schedule going forward because of the limitations I have." This means Woods' next outing would come in six weeks time when Augusta National hosts The Masters on April 6.
