Wellington, Fla.: 'Equestrian Capital of the World'
Located just west of West Palm Beach in Palm Beach County and 66 miles north of Miami, the village of Wellington has been described as “The Equestrian Capital of the World.”
The village is host to the Winter Equestrian Festival, the world's largest and longest running horse show, and holds more than 40 weeks of equestrian competitions per year.
Each year the village hosts several high-goal polo tournaments including the USPA Gold Cup and the U.S. Open Polo Championship at the Palm Beach International Polo Club.
The project, called The Wellington, will include a commercial center featuring shops, hotels, offices, a park, and restaurants, as wells plans for a public riding facility with trail riding and a basic introduction to horse sport.

And then there's four swimming pools ranging from a 25-meter, six-lane lap pool, family pool and kid's splash area to an adults-only resort-style pool with cabanas.
The place will also offer access to hundreds of acres of walking, jogging and biking trails, and nature preserves, as well as a 17-acre commercial center with shops, offices, park, retail, and restaurants.
The proposed development includes doubling the size of the Wellington International equestrian showgrounds, which is currently at capacity, according to a news release.
Douglas McMahon, a senior managing director at Nexus and Tavistock Group, was named managing partner of the joint venture.
Nexus is also building a 600-acre resort in the Bahamas.
Mark Bellissimo recently paid $35 million for the golf course at the Palm Beach Polo Golf & Country Club, which will be extensively renovated and to which the community will have access.
Last year, he sold the village’s 161-acre International Polo Club Palm Beach for $95 million, according to The Real Deal. The property was part of an overall 248-acre tract that Bellissimo purchased for $72 million in 2016.
