Tiger Woods has committed to playing at The Open Championship at his 'favourite golf course' St Andrews following his remarkable comeback appearance at the Masters.
The 15-time major winner dominated headlines all week at Augusta National after competing in the Masters just 14 months on from his life-threatening car crash. There were big fears Woods would struggle with the physical demands of the iconic course, but he more than coped and managed to make the cut before eventually finishing on 13-over par for the tournament.
Attention has already turned to what next for Woods, having previously confirmed he wouldn't return to the PGA Tour full-time, and adding that he was targeting The Open in July when speaking back in December. And now he has reiterated that stance, committing himself to the prestigious major.
Speaking to Sky Sports following his round, he was quizzed on his participation at the upcoming US PGA Championship in May. But Woods responded: "I don’t know if I'll play Southern Hills [venue of the PGA] or not but I am looking forward to St Andrews," he said
"That's something that is near and dear to my heart and I’ve won two Opens there. It is the home of golf and my favourite golf course in the world so I will be there for that one."
Woods has a special relationship with the iconic St Andrews, winning two of his three Opens at the historic Scottish links. Tiger won at the course back in 2000 for the first time, and then five years later in 2005.
Woods was in an upbeat mood following his conclusion to the Masters, where he stunned fellow competitors and fans alike after confirming his comeback.
The golf icon played superbly during his opening round, shooting one-under par to put him in a strong position before a score of two-over on Friday which saw him rather comfortably make the cut.
However, Augusta took its toil on the weekend as Scottie Scheffler put his stamp on proceedings. Woods posted back-to-back 78s to finish his 2022 Masters campaign on 13-over par.
