Tiger Woods hints at stunning Masters return after practice round at Augusta National

Tiger Woods has hinted at a shock return at the Masters after completing a practice round at Augusta on Tuesday.

There had been doubts Woods would ever play at the highest level again after a horror car crash back in February 2021 in which he suffered open fractures on his right leg.

But the 46-year-old arrived at Augusta’s airport on Tuesday before playing 18 holes with Justin Thomas and Woods’ son Charlie.

Woods is currently on the entry list for the event, which begins a week on Thursday and in which he is a five-time winner, perhaps most famously in 2019 for what was his first Major win since 2008. But it is unclear how his body will respond to his 18 holes of golf.

The 15-time Major winner has not played on the PGA Tour since the high-speed car accident although partnered his son in a 36-hole event.

Woods had previously cast doubt over his participation in the Majors and on the main tour again in the wake of the accident, from which police officers who attended the scene said he was lucky to be alive.

Speaking earlier this year, he said: “I wish I could tell you when I’m playing again. I want to know but I don’t. My golf has been very limited.”

As well as the practice round at Augusta, Woods had also been spotted practising at Medalist in Florida with his caddie.
