Tiger Woods could jump over 1,000 spots in the Official World Golf Rankings as he prepares for his return to competition. Woods will make a return after five months away to compete at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, an event he himself hosts.
The limited-field event will see 20 of the world's best golfers take to the Albany course in the Caribbean, with golfing great Woods headlining. The outing will be Woods' first since returning to St Andrews for the Open Championship in July.
Woods has played just three events this year - The Open, the PGA Championship and The Masters - after confirming his career would now be a part-time one due to the effects of injuries sustained in a car crash in February 2021.
Following his time away from the golf course, the 15-time major champion has understandably tumbled down the world rankings. Having once dominated golf and being the man to spend the longest amount of time in the world No. 1 spot, Woods now finds himself ranked 1266th in the world.
He does however have the chance to make a mammoth jump and break inside the top 250 if he is able to mark his long-awaited return with a victory at the Hero World Challenge. After his long period away, December is set to be a busy month for the American.
After four months without an event, Woods will take to the course on three occasions around the festive period. Following his appearance in the Bahamas, the 82-time PGA Tour winner will then join Rory McIlroy to take on Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in an epic edition of 'The Match'.
Following this, he will then turn out at the PNC Championship alongside son Charlie for the second successive year, after they finished second behind John Daly and his son John Jr in 2021. There had been reports that Woods had been offered the use of a cart to aid his injury struggles. However, the 15-time major winner is said to have categorically turned down the offer.
