Tiger Woods will make his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour next week.

Golf’s most famous star is set to tee off at the 2023 Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, which takes place between February 16-19.

Woods has not played competitively since the 150th Open at St Andrews last July, when fresh doubts were cast over his future in the sport after he missed the cut in miserable fashion.

The 15-time major winner has struggled from plantar fasciitis in his foot of late and was ruled out of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas in December.

But Woods has remained optimistic over his return to regular action, having competed alongside Rory McIlroy against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in the latest edition of ‘The Match’ exhibition event in Florida.

He also took part in the most recent PNC Championship once again along with son Charlie in Orlando.

But now a return to the PGA Tour beckons as he prepares to play his first non-major event since the 2020 Zozo Championship, when he tied for 72nd place at Sherwood Country Club.

Woods tweeted on Friday: “I’m ready to play an ACTUAL PGA Tour event next week. @thegenesisinv”

Woods, who has also undergone multiple back surgeries over recent years, suffered serious leg and ankle injuries in a major car crash in February 2021 and only made his competitive return after 14 months out at the Masters last April, making the cut at Augusta and eventually finishing 47th in the field.

He withdrew from the PGA Championship having carded his highest-ever round of 79 after making the cut at Southern Hills and did not compete at the subsequent US Open in Brookline.

Rounds of 78 and 75 saw him then miss the cut at the Open, while Woods also tied for 39th at the JP McManus Pro-Am in Limerick in July. He is tied with Sam Snead for the most wins in PGA Tour history on 82.
