BHOPAL: In yet another incident, a tiger has claimed the life of a woman in Narmadapuram district of Madhya Pradesh, raising concerns and distress among the residents living in villages surrounding the Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR). The incident, which took place on Friday, involved the discovery of the remains of a missing woman inside a cave.
According to officials, it is believed that the tiger dragged the woman into a nearby cave, where it devoured her entire torso, leaving behind only a portion of her leg. The victim has been identified by her family through distinct features such as her hair, clothing, and anklets. Authorities suggest that the woman's mental vulnerability may have contributed to the unfortunate encounter.
The incident occurred in the Kanjia area, specifically compartment number P309 of Sangai Beat. The deceased has been identified as Rashibai, a 50-year-old woman and wife of Ramchandi from the displaced village of Dhargaon. The incident came to light when the family reported the woman missing on Thursday. Devak Singh Thakur, a resident of Dhar village, raised an alarm about his mother, Rasi Bai, prompting authorities to launch a search operation. Forest ranger BR Padam found the body on Friday evening, in a mountain cave within the Moharikala region of Dhar village.
Officers have also discovered tiger pugmarks in the vicinity, providing crucial evidence of the deadly encounter. The police are collaborating with the forest department in investigating the matter. Following a comprehensive investigation, it has been conclusively determined that the victim was indeed the missing woman. The remains of the deceased were collected and subsequently sent to the hospital for further examination.
To provide immediate assistance, the Sub-Divisional Officer of the Forest Department offered financial support of Rs 10,000 to the grieving family as compensation. Furthermore, under the government's assistance scheme, an aid amounting to eight lakhs will be approved to support the family during this difficult time.
As investigations into the latest attack continue, tiger pugmarks have been discovered near the site where the woman's body was found. This incident is not an isolated occurrence in Narmadapuram. Recently, another woman from Matkuli Mogaon fell victim to a tiger, which devoured her, causing outrage among the local tribal community. In response to the incident, members of the community resorted to acts of arson, targeting a forest post. Authorities faced a significant challenge in restoring order and calming the situation.
