Tiernan Lynch taking the positives despite gap at the top being cut

Tiernan Lynch admitted there was frustration after Larne's goalless draw with ten-man Coleraine on Saturday.

The league leaders, who saw their lead cut to four points on Friday night following Linfield's hammering of Dungannon Swifts, could not find a way past an inspired Gareth Deane at The Showgrounds despite Aaron Jarvis being sent off for the hosts in the second half.

The Bannsiders goalkeeper made several vital saves to deny the Invermen including a last-gasp stop from Thomas Maguire.

Lynch said it was a positive to see his side create several good chances even if they only picked up a point in the end.

"I thought we did enough to win the game today," he said

"It's really hard to be critical, I can't be critical of the players - I thought they were magnificent.

"Everything we asked of them we got. We went and had a go, as the old saying goes - we threw the kitchen sink at it.

"We had chances and on another day they go in. So yes there's frustration but the positives outweigh the frustration.

"I don't know where we could have more of an advantage against ten men.

"The only thing that didn't happen today was putting the ball in the net.

"It wasn't one of those situations where you're thinking we're not creating chances or not getting the ball into good areas or not working the goalkeeper.

"We did all those things and everything we asked of the players we got in abundance - apart from a goal.

"Gareth (Deane) was magnificent. I just saw him getting 'man of the match' and rightly so, but we need to take care of what we need to do.

"It would be different if we were standing here scratching your head and thinking what you could do differently.

"I thought it was a very dominant performance, it wasn't like we hung in there, and I thought we played some really good football at times.

"We created chances and on another day they go into the net."
