Nicola Sturgeon warns Ukraine invasion could be 'most dangerous moment since Second World War'

Nicola Sturgeon has warned the Russian invasion of Ukraine could be the "most dangerous moment since the Second World War".

The First Minister led condemnation of Vladimir Putin and his Kremlin cronies at the Scottish Parliament today following the overnight attacks on several Ukrainian cities.

Speaking in a hushed Holyrood chamber, the SNP leader said ordinary people living through the crisis "must feel and not just hear our support and our solidarity".

It comes as Putin announced at 6am Moscow time that Russian armed forces had launched a "special military operation" in Ukraine.

Diabetic Scots gran given fizzy juice in hospital after staff failed to tell family of diagnosis

The daughter of a Scots gran has hit out after hospital staff failed to tell her the pensioner had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Joanne Weir had been bringing in fizzy juice for her 88-year-old mum during her stay at Monklands Hospital in Airdrie earlier this month.

But the family only found out about the OAP’s condition following a ‘flippant’ remark about administering insulin from a nurse on Ward 22.

Met Office warnings as Scotland to be battered with snow, ice, lightning and blizzards

Much of Scotland has been blanketed by a thick sheet of snow this morning following a whirlwind week of adverse weather.

Thundersnow, lightning and gale force winds were just some of the conditions Scots faced last night.

This has resulted in cosy winter scenes across the country this morning.

The latest weather front comes after Scotland was battered by storms Franklin, Eunice and Dudley in quick succession last week.

Storm Gladys is yet to be named by forecasters at the Met Office.

Ukraine players ready for war as they join battalion and throw World Cup playoff with Scotland in doubt

Ukrainian footballers have been joining their own battalion after Russia’s invasion as the country’s Premier League postponement has thrown next month’s World Cup play-off against Scotland into doubt.

The top flight was due to resume but has been postponed for at least 30 days - two days after they are due at Hampden - with the country now under martial law.

It means the vast majority of their squad won't have played in a competitive game for almost four months, which would hand Scotland a huge advantage through no fault of the Ukrainians.

Lorraine viewers couldn't believe their eyes today when Katie Price appeared for a chat on the show.

The star underwent a gruelling round of surgery earlier this month and fans were stunned at the results.

Katie, 43, is thought to have had an eye and eyebrow lift.

The mum-of-five was having a catch-up with Scots breakfast presenter Lorraine Kelly this morning which drove viewers in their droves to Twitter to discuss the difference in her appearance.
