Thunderstorms and rain to lash Scotland as TRNSMT revellers could face washout weekend

Scots heading to TRNSMT are in store for a wet weekend as forecasters are warning of thunderstorms.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and "heavy showers" across Scotland on Saturday, July 8, stretching from the northwest to the southeast. Starting at 9am and lasting until midnight, up to 50mm of rain could fall in a short timeframe, along with 'hazardous" hail, lightning and "gusty winds".

Those planning to attend TRSNMT festival at Glasgow Green this weekend should dress appropriately for wet weather, which is forecast to reach Scotland by Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately, conditions fail to improve for the rest of the three-day festival. Friday's forecast predicts wet and windy weather in the northwest, while other parts of the UK will see warm and sunny conditions.

Sunday is set to be slightly "fresher", but still poses a risk of more heavy rain with the "odd rumble of thunder".

When: Saturday, July 8 - 9am until midnight

The Met Office said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Saturday, during the morning mainly over parts of England before becoming mainly focused over northern England and Scotland by late afternoon/evening.

"Some intense downpours are likely and whilst rainfall accumulations will vary from place to place, as much as 50 mm of rain could fall in a short space of time in some locations. Hail, lightning and gusty winds will be additional hazards."
