While the likes of Victor Wembanyama, Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller are considered among this year’s most intriguing rookies, 2022 No. 2 pick Chet Holmgren will also be kicking off his rookie campaign this season.
After missing the entire 2022–23 season due to an injury, Holmgren will finally make his long-awaited debut for the Thunder. Amid reports Holmgren has put on 13 pounds since being drafted, Oklahoma City guard Josh Giddey weighed in on the former Gonzaga star’s chances of winning Rookie of the Year.
In response to a tweet correlating phone battery percentage to Holmgren’s chances of winning Rookie of the Year, Giddey voiced his support for his teammate by saying his phone was at 100% battery.

“My phones fully charged,” wrote Giddey on Twitter.
Holmgren sustained a Lisfranc injury to his right foot during a run at the Seattle Pro-AM in August 2022. Oklahoma City opted to play it safe with the 21-year-old, shutting him down for the entire season, thus postponing his rookie campaign until this coming season.
He’ll make his much-anticipated debut in 2023–24, and Giddey is backing the Gonzaga product to take home the significant award during his first season actively on the court.
