A member of the public challenged the suspected criminals before being assaulted by the men who are said to have attempted to take his phone.

The 60-year-old man was taken to hospital but was not seriously injured.

All four men then made off in the direction of Stonedyke Road in two cars, one described as a white four by four and the other a dark coloured vehicle.

Police Sergeant John Logan said: “Fortunately the man who challenged the suspects was not seriously injured and our enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible.

“We are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious before or after the incident or who has dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation to get in touch.

“If you have information then please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3243 of Saturday, 18 February, 2023, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
