Thug slashed and stabbed at Glasgow pub in gangland attack as 'payback for beating woman'

A domestic abuse thug was slashed and stabbed in a gangland pub ambush - as payback for an alleged attack on his girlfriend. The 25-year-old, who we have chosen not to name, was targeted in an attack at the Jenny Burn pub in Glasgow on Monday.

He was rushed to hospital after being slashed on the face and stabbed in the backside at the gastropub, which is just 500 yards away from a police office. It's understood the attack was carried out in the shadow of Police Scotland's Headquarters by a hitman for hire.

And detectives now probing the broad daylight attack believe it was carried out as payback over the victim's alleged domestic abuse of an ex - who is related to a well-known gangland figure. He is being prosecuted at both Hamilton and Glasgow sheriff courts and is due in the dock in connection with both cases in the next few weeks.

An underworld source said: "He's been left with a good few stitches and that will serve as a constant reminder of what he's done. It's far easier to get someone to do that kind of job than you think these days.

"And the fact that it was carried out so close to a Police Scotland building shows the kind of serious characters involved here - they don't care what they do or where they do it. They're paid to do a job and they will carry it out, wherever or whenever it is.

Officers erected a cordon in the car park of the pub, which sits opposite Shawfield Stadium and is part of the Marstons chain, on Monday afternoon. They were called to the scene shortly after 4.30pm and confirmed that a man was taken to hospital following an outburst of violence outside the bar.

Locals reported that the pub was closed as a result of the police investigation, and that was confirmed by the venue on social media. The pub is in the Clyde Gateway area of Glasgow, just north of Rutherglen.

In a Facebook post on Monday, it said it was closed for the rest of the day due to "unforeseen circumstances". Police Scotland spokesperson said enquiries are ongoing.

On Monday, a spokesperson said: “Around 4.35pm on Monday, 11 July, 2022, police were called to the Clyde Gateway in Glasgow, following a report of a serious assault. One man was taken to hospital for treatment and enquiries are ongoing.”
